Perhaps by the time Starfield does release buying a next-gen console will actually be straightforward instead of the headache-inducing experience it currently is. Sony has already released multiple exclusives this year, with more still to come including Horizon Forbidden West, so Starfield being pushed into 2022 is a real blow to the current Xbox software lineup. Starfield vacating this year would also mean that Xbox Series X is banking solely on Halo Infinite to fight the PS5 this holiday season. That’s probably not quite how Microsoft envisaged its first year owning Bethesda would go. It's not something Microsoft does often, so any step forward towards more consumer choice is a win as far as we're concerned.Į3 2023 is in full swing, and while the named event in question isn't running this year, more publishers are pushing to make this summer of games one of the biggest yet.In a strange twist, if Starfield doesn’t launch this year then Bethesda’s output for 2021 will in fact be exclusive to the PS5, as both Deathloop and GhostWire: Tokyo (developed by Arkane and Tango Gameworks respectively, both games will be published by Bethesda) are timed exclusives on Sony’s console. What's exciting is how the new Starfield version opens the door for future first-party titles to receive the same level of treatment, which could extend to custom console designs, much like as we saw with the Halo Infinite Xbox Series X back in late 2021. However, given that the base model sells for $99.99 / £89.99 / AU$149.95, we're hoping that the rates for the new version remain comparable, as there's no new technology inside, just a custom paint job. It's currently unknown exactly how much the new Starfield edition Xbox Wireless Headset will retail for.
